A couple weeks ago I ordered the Touratech Hardwire cable kit for my Garmin Streetpilot 2610, I have a cigarette plug wired to my battery already but it is very unreliable, with plugs coming out of it while riding, loosing electrical contact inside, and corroding due to water getting inside. After my trip last week, the new kit was really desirable. I went out tonight and installed it. I just fed the black line from the handlebars around the left side of the bike inside the frame and zip-tied it to other lines, to the back under the seat to the battery, attached all the lines as shown below and it works great, no more flickering at idle, or at slow speeds. The screen was bright and solid, even when the starter was turning over.

The installation was easy, but i was a little disappointed in the cheapness of the red and black wires coming out of the Garmin cable. When they’re inside a thick plastic cord, they’re fine, but they seem really fragile, and i didn’t have any electrical tape to wrap around them. I tried to spread dielectric grease over exposed areas and the terminals on the battery. Hopefully it will hold up. If it doesn’t, i guess i’ll get another kit and really protect the wires on the second install! Erik, you definitely need to get the kit!
