Alternative Trips

Plans always change, or so it seems. My brother Erik, and I, wanted to go to Costa Rica this summer. We looked into it, and decided that we would do it. We had about 8 or 9 days, and figured we would fly down, rent dual-sport motorcycles, then ride around the country for a week, seeing the sights, and doing some off-road riding. However, scheduling question as to when the program I’m getting into this fall starts, and when Erik could get vacation days off, quickly had us questioning the viability of the trip. In addition to the scheduling problems, I was really worried about the cost of the trip. The more estimating we did, the closer it was getting to $1-2k. That’s just more than i can justify, with school coming up.

So last weekend we decided that we would do an alternative trip. Something in the US or Canada. After throwing some ideas about, we decided that it would be fun to ride the Oregon coast, down the California coast to San Francisco, then East to Yosemite National Park. A quick jaunt down to Mammoth, then back north, to the Lassen Volcanic National Park, then Lava Cave’s National Monument. After that, up into Oregon to Crater Lake, and through the Cascade Mts. I’m really excited that the route is coming together, and I’m excited that we may be able to do some caving in at the Lava Caves NM. We’re looking at the Labor Day week in September, as the ride time, so I’m thinking the weather is still going to be really nice. As long as it’s not totally scorching hot, it should be perfect.

Queen Anne and the Magical Water

Decided to head out on a ride Saturday, I wasn’t sure where but it was so nice out I didn’t really care.  I rode up to Queen Anne, and made my way down tree-shaded streets, lined with large, well maintained houses.  It stopped at Trolley Park on the East side of Queen Anne for a while, took some photos, sat on a bench and just relaxed.

Kerry Park was next, a favorite vista for shots of the downtown skyline.  The park was pretty crowded with people, both residents, and some tourists, who specifically got chewed out by a resident for not being responsible around the sculpture.  I love how some people find it necessary to give people especially people who aren’t from the area their opinion, like they are in charge of something they’re not.  Anyway, I was happy to see that as the lady walked away the group of tourists burst into giggles.

Next I took the Alaskan Way viaduct to the West Seattle bridge, then over to the Alki Beach strip, stopping several times to take photos.

By the time I was done, the sky was cloudy and grey, and the ride back into seattle got quite cold, but the ride was a blast!  I can’t wait until it gets warm!:)   Pics to come…
